Julia Kovalenko is the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants. She writes about ambiguous loss, inherited memory, and immigrant experiences in the United States.
Her current project is a novel that follows three generations of Ukrainian women through the Soviet Famines, state-sanctioned oppression, and cross-continential immigration as they search for freedom from their haunted past.
Previously, Julia taught English and creative writing as a Fulbright Fellow in Lviv. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the Ohio State University and a BA in English from Gonzaga University.
